Mr. Glover

Maroo is thrilled to announce that former S.F. Austin High School teacher and assistant principal, William Glover (that’s “Mr. Glover” to you!), and his wife Robin Ritter-Glover, will be VIP guests at our reunion, on Saturday night, 11/04/23, at Santa Rita’s Cantina!

Many of you will remember Mr. Glover as one of your favorite science teachers, but his record of professional achievement extends well beyond this role. Mr. Glover graduated with his bachelor’s degree from UT Austin in 1972, earning a teaching certificate in science, and he went on to get his master’s degree in in educational administration from Southwest Texas State University (now Texas State) in 1972. He pursued additional post-graduate studies at Texas A&M in College Station! (So... I guess you can be ‘both’ a Longhorn and an Aggie! )

Mr. Glover’s first teaching position was at Martin Junior High School, where he taught science classes between 1972–1976. He moved on to S.F. Austin High School, where he served our high school between 1976 and 2005. During nearly three decades, Mr. Glover taught an array of science courses, including: Physical Science, Biology, Meteorology, Astronomy, Marine Science, Physical Geology, Historical Geology and Environmental Science. He also served as the boy’s soccer coach between 1980 through 1995. In 1996, he stepped into the role of Assistant Principal at SFA HS, which he held until 2005.

Among his many accolades and leadership appointments, Mr. Glover served as the Regional Director of Texas Association of Soccer Coaches and served as the State Coordinator for the Technical Education Resource Center (TERC) for many years. He participated in the ATEEC National Science Foundation Curriculum Workshop for many years, and helped write national environmental curriculum. He was recognized as the PTSA Teacher of the Year on five occasions, and he was voted the S.F. Austin High Teacher of the Year in 1995. And the list goes on!

Mr. Glover is now retired, but this does not appear to have slowed him down. He enjoys spending time with his family, including his children and grandchildren. He and his wife travel together all over the world, to such places as: Galapagos Islands, Ecuador, Peru, Costa Rica, Australia, New Zealand, Denmark, Sweden, Switzerland, Germany, England, Canada, and Alaska for the Northern Lights. They also enjoy hitting the road and exploring the U.S. in their RV camper van.

Please come see Mr. Glover and his wife at the reunion in November! Share some memories, hear about his travels, and join in the big group photo (we hope Mr. Glover will be willing to take ) with all his former students. Here, check out Mr. Glover’s “Now” photo with Coach Billie Porter, who we also hope will attend the reunion!

Have an Austin High (or O.Henry!) teacher or coach from the ’79-’83 era you want to see at the event? Reach out to them and let us know, so we can advise them on the sign-up process for teachers. (Please ensure they were a teacher during our era.) We are offering teachers and a guest complimentary tickets and t-shirts, as our VIP guests! Stay tuned for more information about VIP teachers.
